rowergt

See every stroke on every erg, not just the one you are standing behind.

Prop a phone side-on to a rowing machine and film a piece. rowergt reads the rower's knee, hip, shoulder and elbow in every frame and tells you, stroke by stroke, whether the legs, back and arms worked in order — and where they did not.

No account needed to try it. The video stays on your device.

What it measures

Stroke rate and ratio

Strokes per minute and recovery-to-drive ratio for every stroke, and the median for the piece.

Sequencing timeline

When the legs, the back and the arms start and finish their work in each drive, drawn on one timeline.

Catch and finish checks

Shin angle and body angle at the catch; legs, layback and hands at the finish.

Fault count per piece

How many strokes opened the back early, bent the arms first, or let the knees up before the hands were past them.

Session comparison

Put two pieces side by side — the same athlete last week and today, or two athletes on the same piece.

Why it exists

A coach with a row of ergs can watch one athlete at a time. Opening the back before the legs are down, or bending the arms at the start of the drive, is easy to see when you are looking at that rower — and easy to miss on the other eleven. rowergt watches the strokes you were not watching and counts what it saw.

How a session works

  1. Set the phone side-on. Level with the seat, a few metres away, the whole rower and the foot stretcher in frame.
  2. Film a piece. Thirty seconds to two minutes of steady rowing is enough.
  3. Read it. rowergt steps through the clip in the browser and lists every stroke with its faults.
  4. Keep it. Save the piece under the athlete's name, add a note, and compare it with the next one.

Who it is for

Rowing clubs running erg sessions, CrossFit boxes with a line of rowers, and indoor rowing coaches who want a stroke-by-stroke record rather than a general impression.

What it cannot see

It works from twelve body points in a side-on video, so it sees angles and timing, not force. It cannot tell a rounded back from a straight one at the same angle, and it measures the side nearer the camera. The thresholds it uses are written out on How it works, so you can check every flag against the video.

The club pilot

We are looking for clubs, boxes and coaches to use rowergt in real sessions and tell us what it gets wrong.
